National Sports Headlines - MLB Postseason takes shape

PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Diamondbacks are NL West champions

after dethroning the World Series champion San Francisco Giants 3-1

last night. That's the fifth divisional title for the D-Backs in

their 14 years of existence.

MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Milwaukee Brewers have clinched their first

divisional title since 1982. Ryan Braun's three-run homer in the

eighth gave the Brewers a 4-1 win over Florida and they clinched

when the second-place St. Louis Cardinals lost 5-1 to the Chicago

Cubs

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Texas Rangers are AL West champions

again. The Rangers beat Seattle 5-3 and then about two hours later,

the Rangers had their second consecutive division title after the

Los Angeles Angels lost to Oakland.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Alfonso Soriano dealt the St. Louis wild-card

hopes another serious blow with his first home run of the month, a

tiebreaking three-run shot in the eighth inning that sent the

Chicago Cubs over the Cardinals 5-1 last night. The loss dropped

the Cardinals three games behind Atlanta, which beat Washington

7-4, with five games left in the race for the NL wild card.

NEW YORK (AP) - The lockout has started doing real damage to the

NBA's calendar as training camps are postponed indefinitely and 43

preseason games have been canceled. The NBA says all preseason

games from Oct. 9-15 are off, and more cancellations could be

coming if a new labor deal is not reached soon.
