Saturday Minnesota Sports Headlines - Thome goes deep

CLEVELAND (AP) - Jim Thome gave Cleveland fans one more memory,

and so did Carlos Santana, whose pinch-hit homer leading off the

bottom of the ninth gave the Indians a 6-5 victory over the

Minnesota Twins last night. Thome went 3 for 4 with three RBIs,

including a two-run homer, the 604th of his career, on a night he

was honored in pregame ceremonies.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Dany Heatley scored twice in his

Minnesota debut, including the winner in overtime to lead the Wild

to a 4-3 preseason victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets last

night. Josh Harding made 31 saves for the Wild, who also got goals

from Devin Setoguchi and Kristopher Foucault.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Minnesota Twins players Danny Valencia and

Denard Span are out of the lineup after being involved in a minor

traffic accident in Minneapolis. The players were traveling in

separate vehicles to the airport Thursday afternoon following the

Twins' victory over Seattle. The car driven by Valencia's fiancee

stopped in rush hour traffic and was rear-ended by Span's car.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy

Harvin returned to practice yesterday and is listed as probable for

the game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Harvin missed

practice on Thursday because of an illness. But Harvin says it was

not related to migraine headaches that have caused him to miss time

in the past. He says he had a stomach ache and will be ready to go

against Detroit.
