A Minnesota cross-country runner is being praised for dropping out of a race to help an injured competitor.
Josh Ripley, a junior at Andover High School, was a mile into his race last Friday when he saw a younger runner lying hurt on the ground.
The runner, freshman Mark Paulauskas, had been spiked and was bleeding from a 3-inch gash. The bigger Ripley scooped up Paulauskas and carried him about a half-mile to one of his coaches. Ripley then jumped back into the race. Paulauskas, who wound up getting 20 stitches in a hospital emergency room, called Ripley's deed "amazing."
