MN Sports Headlines for Friday, Sept. 23rd:


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Rene Tosoni's walkoff double in the ninth

gave the Minnesota Twins a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners

yesterday. Tosoni finished with three hits and two runs as

Minnesota snapped its 11-game losing streak. The Mariners stranded

a dozen runners, including the potential go-ahead run in the ninth.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Seimone Augustus scored 21 points as the

Minnesota Lynx routed the Phoenix Mercury 95-67 last night in Game

1 of the Western Conference finals. Maya Moore had 15 points for

the Lynx and Candice Wiggins added 14 off the bench. Game 2 is

Sunday in Phoenix.

 


ST. LOUIS (AP) - Nicklas Backstrom and Matt Hacket combined to

give the Minnesota Wild a 1-0 shutout over the St. Louis Blues last

night. Warren Peters scored the game's only goal early in the

second period. Jaroslav Halak made his first preseason start for

the Blues and stopped 16 shots.

 


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - St. Cloud University and Western

Michigan have accepted invitations to join the National Collegiate

Hockey Conference. They are the seventh and eighth schools to join

the league that opens play in 2013-14. For the next two years, St.

Cloud will be in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
