ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - There was a wild finish in Michigan's

35-31 victory over Notre Dame in the first night game at the Big

House before a record crowd of 114,804. In a game that featured

three touchdowns in the final 1:14, Michigan QB Denard Robinson hit

Roy Roundtree with a 16-yard TD to cap a wild finish between these

two storied Midwestern rivals.

 


RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Kevin Harvick stormed into the Chase for

the Sprint Cup championship along with Dale Earnhardt Jr., who will

race for the championship for the first time since 2008. Harvick

picked up his fourth win of the season Saturday night by winning at

Richmond International Raceway and Little-E finished 16th, good

enough to get him into the 10-race Chase for the Cup that starts

next weekend in Chicago.

 


NEW YORK (AP) - Rafael Nadal  beat Andy

Murray 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on Saturday night to set up a rematch

with Novak Djokovic  in Monday's U.S. Open men's

final. Serena Williams stormed into Sunday's women's final with a

6-2, 6-4 victory over Caroline Wozniacki and will

play Sam Stosur in Sunday's women's title match.

 


STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - A.J. McCarron was poised and efficient

in a rare trip into Big Ten country for third-ranked Alabama,

throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown against No. 23 Penn State in

a 27-11 victory. That completed a home-and-home sweep for Alabama,

which beat Penn State 24-3 last year in Tuscaloosa.

 


INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis Colts spokesman says Peyton

Manning didn't travel with his teammates to Houston for Sunday's

NFL opener for both teams. Manning, who had more surgery on his

injured neck last week, won't play Sunday in the season opener,

ending his streak of 227 consecutive starts including the playoffs.
