MN News Headlines for Saturday, Sept. 10th:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A lobbying group for a proposed St. Croix

River bridge plans to return an $80,000 contribution. Group

spokesman Mike Zipko said yesterday the Coalition for the St. Croix

River Crossing will send back the money given by Stillwater.

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) - A judge has sentenced Thomas Fairbanks to

life in prison without parole for the shooting death of Mahnomen

(muh-NOH'-min) County sheriff's Deputy Chris Dewey. Jurors in

Crookston convicted Fairbanks last week of killing Dewey back in

February 2009.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - More than 220 goats being trucked from

Oklahoma to Minnesota had an unscheduled layover in Kansas after an

accident spilled them onto a highway. KSWCH-TV reports a trailer

being pulled by a truck blew a tire and rolled into a ditch

yesterday morning along the Kansas Turnpike south of Wichita.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Super Bowl Champion Packers continue to

compete with the Dallas Cowboys for the mantle of America's Team --

at least when measured by prime time ratings. Thursday night's NFL

season opener with the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field drew

more than 27 million viewers and was the second highest rated

weeknight program in 13 years. The highest rated regular season

broadcast in that span remains a Monday Night Football game which

Dallas lost at Minnesota in 1999.
