MN Sports Headlines for Wednesday, Sept. 7th:


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Jake Peavy struck out a season-high nine

batters last night as the Chicago White Sox blanked the Minnesota

Twins 3-0. Peavy allowed four hits in six-plus innings of work for

his seventh win of the season. Minnesota starter Liam Hendriks

allowed three runs and four hits in his major league debut.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The family of a man killed in an alleged

hit-and-run has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against former

Minnesota Vikings player Joe Senser and his wife Amy. Anousone

Phanthavong died last month on an I-94 ramp in Minneapolis. Amy

Senser has admitted being the driver.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota coach Jerry Kill says there's no

mystery about his team's starting quarterback. MarQueis Gray will

be under center this weekend when the Gophers host New Mexico. Gray

struggled against USC last week before leaving with cramps.

Freshman Max Shortell relieved him and almost rallied Minnesota to

an upset victory.

 


CLEVELAND (AP) - Victor Martinez drove in three runs last night

as the Detroit Tigers pounded the Cleveland Indians 10-1. Starter

Rick Porcello allowed one run on three hits over six-plus innings

to earn the victory. Miguel Cabrera added an RBI and scored on a

wild pitch.
