MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Quarterback Christian Ponder used his legs as

well as his arm to help the Minnesota Vikings shut out the Houston

Texans 28-0 last night. Ponder threw for 83 yards and one

touchdown, and he also rushed eight times for 61 yards. Ponder is

competing against Joe Webb to be the No. 2 behind Donovan McNabb.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Adrian Peterson says he's happy Tennessee

Titans running back Chris Johnson agreed to a new deal. Johnson

ended his holdout yesterday and signed an extension worth up to $56

million over six years. The Minnesota Vikings star also says he

doesn't believe Johnson's deal will influence on how he's paid in

his next contract.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Two Minnesota Lynx players have been honored

by the WNBA. Lindsay Whalen has been named Western Conference

player of the month for August and Maya Moore was named the

league's top rookie. The players helped the Lynx wrap up the top

seed in the West last month.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien

 has been arrested in Minnesota on suspicion of boating

while intoxicated. Byfuglien was booked into the Hennepin County

jail Wednesday night and was released early yesterday. The

Minnesota native won the Stanley Cup in 2010 as a member of the

Chicago Blackhawks.
