MN Sports Headlines for Thursday, Sept. 1st:


CHICAGO (AP) - Minnesota scored six runs in the first inning,

then held on to beat the Chicago White Sox 7-6 yesterday. Jason

Kubel and Luke Hughes each hit a two-run shot off Jake Peavy in the

first. Scott Diamond allowed three runs on three hits for his first

major league win.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings look to identify their

No. 2 quarterback in today's preseason finale. Rookie Christian

Ponder is expected to play the entire first half against Houston,

and Joe Webb will play the second half. Jamarca Sanford and Tyrell

Johnson will be making their final pushes at the safety position.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Vikings will be without linebacker Jasper

Brinkley for some time. Coach Leslie Frazier confirmed yesterday

that Brinkley had hip surgery on Tuesday. Brinkley is the fourth

linebacker on Minnesota's depth chart to get hurt.

 


MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A professional soccer player for a Montreal

team was arrested last weekend at the Minneapolis-St. Paul

International Airport. Mignane Diouf was taken into custody for

allegedly trying to steal a $600 pair of headphones from an airport

store. Diouf was released and allowed to return to Canada.
