
David Edenburn, 77, of Echo died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Sunwood Good Samaritian Nursing Home in Redwood Falls. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from the United Methodist Church in Wood Lake. Burial will be in the Echo Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church. Arrangements are with the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.
David Calvin Edenburn was born January 5, 1934 in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County, Minnesota to parents David Eugene and Hazel (Knutson) Edenburn. He was baptized on March 31, 1934 by Pastor J.Carl Bast. David passed away on August 28, 2011 at the age of 77 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, MN.
At the age of 2 he moved with his parents to a farm in Sioux Agency Township. He was confirmed on May 9, 1948 at the Rock Valle Lutheran Church by Pastor Eugene Holland. He attended District 65 Country School and graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture at Morris, MN in 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 27, 1951 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1954. On May 28, 1955, he was united in marriage to Laurel Schroeder at the Echo Methodist Church. They farmed near Echo for 43 years, retiring in 1996. In addition to farming, David worked for Chapman Sand and Gravel, was a bus driver for the Echo Public School and later worked for Zimmermann Maintenance of Belview. After living in Granite Falls for 2 years, they returned to Echo in 1999. David entered the Parkview Nursing Home on June 24, 2008. The storm that hit Parkview Nursing Home on July 1, 2011, necessitated his move to Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
David was a 56 year member of the Echo American Legion Post. He served on the Board of Directors for the Citizens State Bank of Echo and was a trustee on the board of the Echo Methodist Church and later as trustee when the church merged with the United Methodist Church in Wood Lake.
David was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely proud of his service to his country. David enjoyed traveling; especially the bus tours he and Laurel were able to go on. One of his special joys was trout fishing in southeastern Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife Laurel, his children Lori (Roger) Wing of Bemidji, Lisa (Steve) Wilson of Mondovi, WI, Lane (Nancy) Edenburn of Denver, CO. Also surviving are his grandchildren Joy (Craig) Isaacson of St. Michael, MN, Matthew (Ashley) Potter of Wood Lake, MN, and Alex Wilson of Mondovi, WI; great-grandchildren Cailey and Brooke Isaacson, Lindsey and Breanna Potter; sisters Marion (Gerald) Fennern and Carolyn Henning and brother John (Vivian) Knutson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Marlan Henning. Blessed be his memory.
