The Redwood County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam to watch out for. Area residents who may have attended Farm Fest this August, and registered at a yet to be identified vendors booth, may soon receive phone calls informing them they have been selected from their registrations submitted at Farm Fest as the winner of a vacation prize package.
The victim's are told they have won a week's stay at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and sometimes, at Daytona Beach. The callers then tell victims they need to provide their credit card number and pay a fee of approximately 400 dollars in order to "secure" their spot. The callers have become quite belligerent if the victim shows hesitation about giving out financial information.
The Redwood County Sheriff's Office wants to remind you to be very hesitant about giving out any financial information on the phone or over the internet, especially if you did not initiate the transaction. If you are the winner of a vacation prize package, you should not be required to pay almost 400 dollars with your credit card.
The Farm Fest group is working with local law enforcement to identify the vendor's booth the registrations for the vacations came from. Farm Fest has a policy that forbids any vacation packages to be given out as door prizes. A general location of the vendor has been identified, and Farm Fest is working with photos to narrow it down.
