Scam Attempt in Brown County

A resident of Brown County reported that he got a phone call at his residence telling him that he had won an 11 night vacation as a result of attending FarmFest.  The area code on the call was 202, which is from Washington, D.C.  The caller then wanted the residents credit card number and information.  The caller became upset when the resident questioned the need for credit card information over the phone.  The resident ended the call and did not give any personal information.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind people not to give personal and/or financial information over the phone to an unsolicited caller.  If you are notified that you have won a prize, ask for written documentation to be sent and do not verify any information over the phone.  Please report all possible scams to your local law enforcement agency.
