Sophie Elizabeth Alla (Lemcke) Bast, 85, of Springfield MN died on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar, MN.

Visitation will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.

Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:30 AM.

The Clergy will be Pastor Mark Johnson.

Interment will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, MN.

Sophie Elizabeth Alla Bast was born August 6, 1926, in Vesta Township, Redwood County the daughter of Arthur and Sophia (Gladitsch) Lemcke. She graduated from high school then moved to Springfield where she worked for Dr. R.M. Tessien. Sophie was united in marriage to Walter Engel on November 1, 1948. Walter died in 1963. She married Richard Bast on August 16, 1986, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield and retired in 1987. Sophie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rebekah Circle, a quilting group, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, dancing, playing cards, and cooking.

She is survived by her children- Diane Engel of Willmar, and Steven and wife Pattie Engel of Apple Valley; grandchildren- Justin (Emily) Engel of Richfield, and Jaime (Christopher) Canales of San Rimon, CA; great grandson
- Micah Canales; step-sons and their families - Keith (Fran) Bast of Apache Junction, AZ, Kenneth (Laura Lee) Bast of Springfield, and Kelvin (Char) Bast of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Walter in 1963; husband - Richard in 2002; grandson - Jacob Engel; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
