Rose M. Dudek was born February 12, 1921, on the family farm, Henryville Township, rural Olivia, MN to WC and Josie (Zetah) Kodet. She grew up at rural Olivia, graduated from Olivia High School, and achieved her dream of becoming a teacher. She married the town’s blacksmith’s third son, Joseph Dudek, on July 4, 1941. Later when Joe’s health began to fail, she returned to teaching, first at St. Bernard’s School in St. Paul and then at St. Aloysius School in Olivia where she also served as Principal. Rose really treasured the sisters, her fellow teachers and her students at St. Aloysius. Joe and Rose enjoyed many summers at their home on Green Lake and several winters in Texas. After Joe passed away on Christmas Day, 1981, she often spent time in Breckenridge with her daughter Anne. Rose enjoyed subbing and was a “number one teacher’s aide” to her daughter in the Breckenridge schools. She also volunteered a great deal of time with the high school speech team. Rose was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a founding member of the Olivia Girl Scouts and also one of the first troop leaders. Recently Rose has been a resident at the St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Breckenridge where she passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011, with her beloved niece Connie Jo Dirks and daughter Anne beside her.
Rose is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Gordon Zibell of Wheaton and Breckenridge; her double-nieces Connie Jo (and Scott) Dirks and Pamela (and Anthony) Ogletree; her double-nephew James (and Elaine) Dudek; her sisters: Stasia Swoboda and Rita Kellner; her sisters-in-law Clare Kodet and Roz Dudek Harris; Douglas Schmoll who was like a son to her; as well as many other nieces, nephews and dear friends. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Dudek, her sisters: Mildred Trochlil, Irma Wertish, and Celia Dudek; and her brother, Jerome Kodet.
Blessed Be Her Memory
