Change in detour of 212

Motorists will encounter a change in the detour on Highway 212 from Hector to Glencoe beginning Aug. 10 as crews start work on the second stage of a resurfacing project.

The second stage detour will be east on Highway 212 to Highway 4, north to Renville County Road 11, east on Renville County Road 11/McLeod County Road 18 to Highway 15, south on Highway 15 to Highway 212.

Work began April 12 on this 28-mile project which extends from Renville County Road 16 west of Hector to the start of the four-lane highway west of Glencoe. Work on the third stage of the project is expected to start in late September, with completion of the project scheduled for late this fall. Detailed information on this resurfacing project can be found at www.dot.state.mn.us/d8/projects/hwy212hectorglencoe/index.html.

During construction and road maintenance work, The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges drivers to:

• Stay alert, expect the unexpected. Be patient.

• Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.

• Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

• Don’t use cell phones while driving.

• Remember text messaging while driving is illegal.

• Follow posted speed limits; fines double in work zones.
