Fatal accident near Sleepy Eye



A 76-year-old woman from Sleepy Eye died in a crash near her hometown Saturday morning. (August 6, 2011)

According to investigators, a car was backing up on County Road 29 after missing a turn to County Road 8 when another car ran into it.

The victim, identified as Joann Shroeder 76 of Sleepy Eye, was a passenger in the car that was backing up, troopers said she passed away at  North Memorial Medical Center.

Marion Romberg, 72 of Sleepy Eye was driving an Oldsmobile Aurora in reverse headed eastbound in the westbound lane of CSAH 29 when her car was struck in a rear-end collision by Ruth Vincent, 84 of New Ulm who was traveling westbound on CSAH 29. All parties were transported to either Sleepy Eye medical center or New Ulm Medical Center for treatment various injuries. North Memorial Air Care was dispatched to Sleepy Eye Medical Center as well.
