Bernelda Holmberg





Bernelda (Dubbels) Holmberg, 94, of rural Vesta died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Olivia. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday August 8, 2011, both will be held at the church. Arrangements are with the Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso.

Bernelda Margaret (Dubbels) Holmberg was born on October 12, 1916 in Little Falls to Joseph and Verna (Tradup) Dubbels. She grew up in the Lincoln area where she attended elementary school. She entered high school in Little Falls at the age of 11 and continued her education at the U of M School of Agriculture and studied Horticulture and Home Economics, graduating in March of 1935. Bernelda married Loren Holmberg on January 18, 1936 in St. Paul. They moved to the farm in rural Vesta in 1937 where they raised six children. Through the years she was a Master Gardener, she was active in 4-H, Sunshine Sewing Club and county extension. Bernelda enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, ornithology, sport hunting, collecting arrowheads and in general "collecting". She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood where she was active as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years, served on the Altar Guild, held positions in Ladies Aid and Bible Study Circle, served as a Church Deacon, and also was a member of the choir.

Bernelda Holmberg passed away on Thursday August 4, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Olivia achieving the age of 94 years, 9 months and 23 days. She is survived by her children: Alan (Nancy) Holmberg of Fairbanks, Alaska, Lorene (Charles) Schumacher of Perham, Douglas (Sherry) Holmberg of Valrico, Florida, Lee (Sindie) Holmberg of Vesta, Loris "Pixie" (Jerome) of Milroy and Rita "Tweety" (Bo) Woodman of Kerrville, Texas, 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings: Warren Dubbels, Monna (Jim) Heinis/Jefferies, Joseph Dubbels and Donna (Bob) Theil. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Alaire Savannah. Blessed be her memory.
