Kelly hopes to choose Notre Dame QB 10 days before opener
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says he
plans to choose a starting quarterback by the third week of August
so the Irish will have the final 10 days to two weeks to prepare
for the Sept. 3 season opener against South Florida.
His quarterback derby when fall camp opens Saturday will include
Dayne Crist, the starter last season until he suffered a knee
injury and needed surgery for the second straight year; Tommy Rees,
who started the final four games, all victories; second-year player
Andrew Hendrix; and freshman Everett Golson.
Kelly went 8-5 a year ago during a tumultuous first year that
saw a student videographer die after the tower from which he was
filming practice fell over in high winds.
