Ruth Smith, age 95, of Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls and formerly of Olivia, died Sunday, July 31, 2011. Funeral services are Friday 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton with Rev. David Horton officiating. Burial is Friday 3:45 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Garden Cemetery in North St. Paul. Visitation is Friday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.
 
Ruth Emelia Smith was born February 24, 1916 at Almelund, MN to Charles and Eva (Asp) Swanson. She grew up and attended school at Almelund and then married Lester Smith on May 5, 1933 at Chisago County, MN. They made their home in Holloway, Appleton, Morton and North St. Paul. Lester died in 1997 and later that year she moved to Fairview Place in Olivia to be near her family. Ruth was a homemaker and had also worked doing house cleaning, as a home health aid, the head cook at a nursing home in North St. Paul and as well as being a hospital volunteer.   She had enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, crafts, listening to talk radio shows, flower gardening and loved to cook. Ruth had resided these past five years at Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls where her death took place on Sunday, July 31, 2011.  
 
Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses: Marcella (and Lloyd) Schultz of Bird Island, Beverly (and Bruce) Schroeder of Redwood Falls, Gary (and Nancy) Smith of Mesa, AZ, and David (and Mickey) Smith of Cheney, WA; her 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester, one brother, three sisters and her grandson Paul Schultz.
