Minnesota deer hunting licenses go on sale Monday

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota deer hunting licenses go on

sale Monday.

At the same time, the Department of Natural Resources will post

the state's updated hunting regulations online at

http://www.mndnr.gov/buyalicense . Printed booklets will be

available in mid-August where hunting licenses are sold.

The archery deer season opens Sept. 17. The general firearms

season opens Nov. 5. The deadline for lottery permit applications

is Sept. 8.

Big game program coordinator Lou Cornicelli (korn-ih-SEL'-lee)

says it should be a good season. He says deer populations are at or

near goals throughout much of the state.

Some of the new regulations reflect efforts to protect deer from

chronic wasting disease. A management area with special regulations

has been set up in southeastern Minnesota surrounding the area

where a deer that tested positive was taken last fall.
