Schools face financial woes

A few school officials were amongst those at town meetings held yesterday in our area with Sen. Gary Dahms and Rep. Chris Swedzinski.

Another shift in aid payments to schools was passed with this years budget during the special session. The state formula adds $50 to the per-pupil amount schools recieve and will offset the costs of borrowing, but the $700 milllion shift also comes on top of a previous delay of $1.4 billion that has yet to be repaid to schools. Under the new budget, 40% of the appropriate funds will be withheld until next year.

It is anticipated that 114 school districts in Minnestoa this fall will be asking voters to pass referendums.
