State Gains over 13,000 Jobs in June

ST. PAUL - Minnesota employers added 13,200 jobs in June, according to figures released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

The state unemployment rate rose 0.1 percent in June to a seasonally adjusted 6.7 percent, compared with the U.S. rate of 9.2 percent.

"The gain of 13,200 jobs in June is very good news," said DEED Commissioner Mark Phillips. "While Minnesota continues to show steady improvement, it will take continued long-term, sustained job growth to impact the unemployment rate, which has stayed virtually unchanged for months."

Leisure and hospitality led all sectors, adding 8,000 jobs. Other gains occurred in trade, transportation and utilities (up 5,000), education and health services (up 2,400), government (up 1,700), manufacturing (up 800) and financial activities (up 300).

Job losses occurred in June in construction (down 2,200), professional and business services (down 1,200), other services (down 900), mining and logging (down 400), and information (down 300).
