Donald Daub of Wabasso, passed away Monday July 11, 2011 at Gil Mor Manor in Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Friday July 15, 2011 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and continue Friday one hour prior to services in St. Anne’s. Parish Prayer service at 7p.m. Thursday followed by Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary.
Donald was born on February 7, 1926 in Vail Township to John and Catherine (Bernardy) Daub. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church and graduated from Wabasso High School in 1944. He married Eleanor Wurscher at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan on September 25, 1950, and they made their home on the family farm where Donald had grown up. He continued to farm this land until 1986 when he retired early due to his lifelong struggle with Paget’s disease. They moved into Wabasso and learned to enjoy town life. Eleanor passed away in 2006. Donald moved to Gil Mor Manor in Morgan in August of 2010. Donald was a kind, caring man who loved his God, his family and friends, the land, hunting and fishing, He was an active member of his church and served on St. Anne’s church council, St. Anne’s school board and recently received his 75 year membership pin for the Catholic Order of Foresters. Farming was also in his blood. He served on the Seaforth Elevator Board and the Redwood County Farm Bureau Board. When his father retired from being Vail township treasurer, he took over that job and kept it for the next 21 years. Donald, known as "Doc", took numerous fishing trips in Minnesota and Canada, catching lots of fish and great stories. Many years he also went deer hunting near Warroad. He still found time for a yearly family vacation to the lake and took several trips with Eleanor traveling to different states. At home you could often see him through the picture window sitting in his chair reading western novels. He loved his old time music, children, radishes, chocolate and jelly beans.
Donald Daub passed away at GilMor Manor on Monday July 11, 2011. He is survived by his seven children: Tom and Arlene Daub of Wabasso, Chuck and Marilyn Daub of Wabasso, Brenda and Ernie Miska of Alexandria, Vickie Daub of Wabasso, Margaret (Peggy) and Randy Zimmer of Morgan, Doug and Stacy Daub of Morgan and Scott and Michelle Daub of Seymour, WI, 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Herbert and Jean Daub, Le Sueur, Rita and Earl Holmes, Elysian, John E. and Barbara Daub, Burnsville and Ed and Carla Daub, Wabasso., and sisters in law JosephaWurshcer, St. Paul and Joyce Wurscher, Moville, IA. He is preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his parents and his sister Joan. He will be deeply missed.
