
Harold “Buster” Tersteeg, age 85, of Olivia died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Rice Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia with Rev. George Schmit officiating. Visitation is Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Burial is at a later date in Utah.
Harold “Buster” Tersteeg was born May 15, 1926 at Bird Island, MN to Albert and Theresa (Neubauer) Tersteeg. He grew up at Bird Island where he also attended school. Buster served his country for several years in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he worked in Montana in the copper and gold mines as well as for ranchers and later in the shipyards in Seattle. Harold married Irene Woelfel on August 12, 1953 at Glencoe. Buster worked for many years as a painter in Renville County and for a period in Utah. Irene preceded him on death July 5, 2000. Buster had enjoyed woodworking, gardening, painting and bird watching.
Buster is survived by his children: Deb (John) Forsman of Danube, Connie (Richard) Beighley of Olivia, Steven (Bernita) Tersteeg of Ogden, UT, Doug Tersteeg of Ogden, UT, and Shirley Tersteeg of Olivia; his grandchildren: Bridget (Cesar) Tersteeg of Hawick, Chris (Susy) Tersteeg of Willmar, Robert Tersteeg and Traci Tersteeg of Hawick, Jennifer Forsman of Olivia, Scott Forsman of Danube, Cathy (Anthony) Balsely of Redwood Falls, and Jimmy Tersteeg of TX; his great-grandchildren C.J. Flores, Kendra Shroeder, Skylar Ireland, Ava Tersteeg, Sophia Tersteeg, Abbi Tersteeg, Taylor Forsman, Courtney Balsely, Anthony Balsely, and Damien Tersteeg; his sisters: Amelia Empey of Ogden, UT, and Cecelia Hassett of Seattle, WA; and family friend Beth Tersteeg of Hawick. Buster was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene, his son Mark Tersteeg, his granddaughter: Katie Tersteeg; his sister Berdelia McGaffey and his brothers Ray Tersteeg and William Tersteeg.
