Robert L Schmitt, 86, of Comfrey, MN died on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Visitation will be at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, Mn on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska, MN.

Service will be held at Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska, MN on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM.

The Clergy will be Rev. Lisa Doege.

Interment will be at the Mt. Pisquah Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey, MN.

Robert L. Schmitt was born on May 20, 1925 in Brown County, the son of Isidore and Roselyn (Anderson) Schmitt. He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bob was united in marriage to Janice Haugen on November 7, 1952 at the Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska. The couple lived in Comfrey, moved to Hanska, and return to Comfrey in 1958. Bob worked for Sanitary Dairy in Sleepy Eye and then worked at Comfrey Public School starting in November of 1965 until retiring in 1990. He served as a Scout Master for 23 years, a 4-H leader, a member of the Cross Country Saddle Club, Albin Johnson American Legion Post #244 in Comfrey, and was an active member of Nora Unitarian Universalist Church in Hanska. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, horses, and attending school and sporting events with his children and grandchildren.

Bob died on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, MN at the age of 86 years.

He is survived by his children - Lee (Lynn) Schmitt of Comfrey, MN, John
(Julie) Schmitt of Comfrey, MN, Susan (Richard) Evers of Comfrey, MN, Joy
(Gerard) Rathman of Comfrey, MN, and Julie (Dominic) Sellner of Sleepy Eye, MN; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife - Janice in April of 2000.
