Redwood Valley alumni found dead at college

Around noon Monday, MIT junior Brian G. Anderson was found deceased in his room in the Next House dormitory. Anderson, 21, was a native of Redwood Falls, a graduate of Redwood Valley High School in 2009. Officials were called to check on him reportedly when family could not reach him.

The Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney are conducting an investigation, which is standard protocol with a sudden death. The MIT Police are assisting in the investigation, and report that there is no imminent danger to the MIT community. The state Medical Examiner’s office has not yet given its determination of the cause of death; that process typically takes days or weeks.

MIT is stating that questions will naturally arise about the circumstances of this death, but they must allow time for the authorities to conduct their investigation. The school has had 2 students on campus commit suicide this year so they are reacting to that fact and asking people to refrain from speculation. A school  official stated that “At this early stage, there is no strong indication that Brian’s death was the result of suicide.”

Anderson was a Management major at MIT. He was an active member of MIT’s wrestling team and a member of a formerly fraternity.

The school community at MIT is offering counseling to students who feel affected by his death.

No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.

He is the son of Ceci and Greg Anderson of Redwood Falls-Belview area. He was an active athlete at Redwood Valley-especially in wrestlng. He was also an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts.
