The Ramsey County Medical Examiner today will conduct an autopsy on an inmate of the Yellow Medicine County Jail who died of an apparent suicide.
A correction officer on a well-being check found the inmate shortly before 2 a.m. today dead in his cell. The inmate, Shane Dean Hildahl 37, used bed linens to hang himself. The inmate had been alone in his cell since 11:30 p.m. and was last checked on by corrections officers at 1:30 a.m.
The corrections officer who discovered the inmate immediately called an ambulance and requested the assistance of Yellow Medicine County sheriff’s deputies and Granite Falls Police Department officers.
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death with the assistance of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. As the incident in still under investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
