Fire destroys home in Redwood Falls

The Redwood Falls Fire Department responded to a house fire Monday afternoon, at the home a fellow firefighter in Redwood Falls.

Fire officials reported to KLGR a lot of smoke and significant damage to the house and contents.

As firefighters arrived on the scene at 1212 South Halvorson Street they found the home was completly filled with smoke especially in the basement.

The fire crew had a tough time getting to the fire because the fire had burnt the steps to the basement. Crews used saws to gain access through a hole made in the floor.

The Minnesota Fire Marshall is expected to be on the scene Tuesday morning to help determine the cause of the fire. It is believed to have started in the basement of the home.

The residents of the home, the Mike and Michelle Mohr family, were not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The Redwood Falls Fire Department was on the scene for about 3 1/2 hours.
