Ervin J. Fischer, 82, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM and on Monday from 7:30 to 10:00 AM. There will be a Parish Prayer Service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:15pm. Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10:30 AM The Clergy will be Msgr. Ervin J. Fischer was born on November 5, 1928 in Albin Township, MN, the son of William & Elsie (Schiller) Fischer. He grew up in Brown County. Ervin married Marian Portner on June 6, 1950 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Ervin and Marian farmed for 50 years on their farm in Eden Township. In 2008 Ervin & Marian moved to their present home in Sleepy Eye. Ervin was active in the New Ulm Area Sport Fisherman's Club, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and Sleepy Eye Concertina Club. Ervin enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping, Canadian fishing trips, woodworking, building bird houses and sausage making events with family. Ervin also enjoyed playing weekly sheephead card games with his card playing buddies. He enjoyed old time music and was a self taught concertina & piano player. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and his special dog, Claire.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marian of Sleepy Eye, children, Allen (Carol) Fischer of Sleepy Eye, Kelvin (Judy) Fischer of New Ulm, Nancy Fischer of Sleepy Eye and Beverly Hoffmann of New Ulm, grandchildren, Laura Trebesch, Sarah Heikkila, Matt Fischer, Amanda Moreno, Jessica Fischer, Michelle Cartier, Shane Fischer, Danielle Fischer, Lee Havemeier, Bear Havemeier, Melanie Dyba, Kristopher Hoffmann, 14 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Arnolda Fischer of Sleepy Eye, many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Willard and sisters, Leona Helget and Veronica "Fronie" Helget.
