Willmar man who allegedly threatened police with knife charged with felonies

A Willmar man arrested last week after allegedly threatening people and police with a knife appeared in Kandiyohi County District Court Monday.

Steven Garcia, age 32, is charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Assault and threats of Violence, all of which are felonies. Judge Rodney Hanson set a pre-trial conference date of May 23rd.

Police say Garcia threatened people with a knife last Thursday afternoon, and after confronted by officers near the Kandiyohi County Courthouse he threatened to kill officers. Garcia allegedly threw the knife and ran away, but was tackled and arrested.

After his arraignment last Friday he was released without bail if he promised to take his prescribed medications, submit to random testing, and stay away from drugs, alcohol and weapons.
