Monday accident victim has advice for hunters

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office with the report of a hunting accident that occurred on Monday, April 9, at the intersection of 208 Ave. and 630 Street in rural Yellow Medicine County.

An 18 year old male with non-life threatening injuries was interviewed by the Granite Falls Hospital, and reported he had been shot in the right ankle by his friend, who was shooting at a raccoon using a Remington .22 caliber rifle. The victim was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Hospital for surgery.

When asked if he had any additional statements Monday evening, the victim said, “Remember to use the safety.”
