William M. Horne was born on February 26, 1928, in Beloit, WI the son of William & Violet (Krueger) Horne. He grew up and attended school in Beloit, WI where he graduated from high school. Bill married Mary Smith on January 22, 1949 in Beloit, WI. Bill began his very active life as a baseball player shortly after graduation. After Bill realized how often he was gone from home, both he and Mary settled in Sleepy Eye and raised their family. Bill was an apprentice plumber for Bob Sucker and when he retired Bill started his own business; Bill Horne Plumbing and Heating. Bill kept busy with being a referee for many major sports and even got to referee a high school championship basketball game in the Twin Cities. Sports always played an important part of Bill’s life. After retirement, Bill and Mary enjoyed traveling to Hot Springs, AR or San Antonio, TX where they both enjoyed time with friends and playing golf. Bill enjoyed playing cards with Mary and watching any and all sports on the television. Bill spent many hours on the golf course and held many positions on men’s league. He enjoyed seeing the many improvements that happened at his beloved golf course. He also took great pride of his lawn and could be found mowing weekly to make sure his lawn looked just perfect. Bill enjoyed talking to people especially about sports, his children, and his grandchildren. He loved when they would visit and especially loved putting all their pictures on his refrigerator.
