Redwood Valley High School is pleased to announce its 2017-18 ExCEL Award Winners Lauren Karnitz and Deon Estebo. The ExCEL award — Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership — is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community.
Deon has been involved in cross country, track and field, robotics, one act, band, jazz band, student council (vice president) and NHS. He has been on the A honor roll all semesters in high school. Deon volunteers at church, Boy Scouts, Celebrate Redwood Falls, and with various roles at school.
Lauren is involved in cross country, track and field, hockey statistics, musical(pit band), robotics, student council, NHS, band, jazz band, drumline, honor band, and dance . She has been on the A honor roll all semesters of her high school career. She volunteers with meals on wheels, Ruby’s Pantry, Big Buddies, church, shoe drive, NHS events, Celebrate Redwood Falls, Adopt a Highway, Urban Plunge and a weekend backpack helper. She has competed at the state cross Country meet three times. Lauren was selected as one of 36 ExCEL award winners in the state and will be honored during a state girls basketball game.
Logan Josephson and Rose Frank from Redwood Valley High School have been named this year’s Triple “A” Award nominees. Triple “A” Award winners are students who are recognized for excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award (Triple “A” Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award is given to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and who participate in league-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Logan is a 4.0 GPA student and has been involved with football (all-district), basketball, track and field (all conference), robotics, band, student council, and NHS. He has competed at the state track meet for 3 years and has earned 2 state medals (7th in long jump and in the 4 x 200 M relay). Logan was also selected to represent the South in the MN Coach’s Association All-Star Football game. Logan was named the 2017 defensive back of the year for the South Central White District. Logan plans to attend the Minnesota State University- Mankato and major in civil engineering and play football. Logan was selected as the Sub-region 9 winner and the Region 3A winner of the Triple A award and will represent our region at the state level during the state boys basketball tournament on March 24th!
Rose is a 3.87 GPA student and has been involved in basketball, volleyball, softball, musical, three-act play, speech (all conference), SADD, Special Olympics-Unified, student council, class officer, NHS, choir and women’s ensemble. She has been an alternate to state in speech for 2 years. Rose plans to attend a 4year college and major in health science.
