(LOS ANGELES) — Mickey Jones, who made a name for himself as a blue-collar character actor on National Lampoon’s Vacation and Sling Blade, has died. He was 76.
Jones’ rep Cherry Hepburn confirmed to Deadline that he actor died after suffering from an illness.
His acting career began in 1971 and spanned multiple decades to include credits on notable television shows like Justified, Married with Children, 21 Jump Street, Home Improvement and Baywatch. He also brought his signature beard to the big screen in Total Recall, Tin Cup and, most recently, Born wild.
The Houston-born actor also had a successful career in music. He played the drums, working with artists including Trini Lopez, Johnny Rivers, Kenny Rogers, and The First Edition.
His most famous musical role was as the drummer on Bob Dylan’s notorious 1966 electric tour playing to hostile audience across Europe. For the tour, Jones replaced drummer Levon Helm in The Hawks, the group which later would become The Band.
