This week it was revealed two people associated with Willmar High School were diagnosed with active tuberculosis and were being treated.
Kandiyohi County Public Health Director Ann Stehn says tuberculosis is not unheard of in the county. Stehn says they have had active cases of TB reported every year except two in the past 15 years, and average 2 to 3 active cases per year.
Stehn says under the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health, they are checking out everyone closest to the patients, beginning with an interview with a nurse, a TB test, and any indicated medical follow up and treatment. Stehn says there is no TB vaccine in use in the United States.
