Hulda W. Gilbert, age 96, of Renville, died Tuesday, December 5, at Rice Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 11, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Danube. The Rev. Michael Kuschel will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the services at the church in Danube. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, Renville.
Hulda W. Gilbert was born on November 19, 1921, in Emmet Township, Renville County to Frank and Anna (Reetz) Weigel. She grew up on a farm in Winfield Township and attended country school. She was united in marriage to John Gilbert on February 4, 1951, in Minneapolis. They lived in Arizona for a short time and them moved back to Minnesota and made their home in St. Louis Park. She later moved to Olivia and lived there until moving to Renville where she has resided since. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Danube. She enjoyed the outdoors and playing Bingo.
Survivors include her son James (and Gene) Gilbert of Baltic, CT, her granddaughters: Karolynn Tom of Tacoma, WA, and Dr. Laura Kate Tom of Barcelona, Spain; her son-in-law Darryl Tom of Yakima, WA, and her sister Elsie Weigel of Danube, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Barbara, and 6 brothers and sisters.
