Sleepy Eye woman, Madison Lake man hospitalized after icy crashes

In addition to the numerous spin-outs and minor fender benders, slick road conditions across southern Minnesota led to at least two crashes that required hospitalizations.

Around 2:45am Tuesday, 20-year-old Jamie Ann Wells of Sleepy Eye lost control of her jeep as she was going down an on ramp from Highway 14 to Highway 52 in Rochester.  Her vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic and collided head on into the median barrier.

Wells was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Then around 6:00am Tuesday, 26-year-old Robert Daniel Walechka of Madison Lake, who was also on Highway 52 in Rochester, lost control of his pickup, it hit the median wall, slid into a car and then slid back into the  median wall.

Walechka was taken to St. Mary’s for treatment of his injuries.

The driver of the car, 55-year-old  James Clayton Kroschel of Mapleton, was hospitalized as well.

Road conditions for both crashes were reported by the State Patrol as icy/snow.
