Cotner named Redwood Falls Police Chief, and other highlights of the Dec. 4 Redwood Falls City Council meeting

At Tuesday’s Redwood Falls City Council meeting, Officer Jason Cotner was named the next Redwood Falls Police Chief, replacing the retiring Mark Dressen. Cotner has been the department’s Assistant Police Chief since April 2011. He has tentatively accepted the position, once the standard background checks and other official business are completed.

In other city council news:

The Redwood Falls Public Library has approved a purchase agreement for the Harvest Baptist Church property adjacent to the library. Once completed, the city will own the entire block the library is on. Estimated cost of demolishing the former church is approximately $31,000.

The city council approved a request from the cheerleading team at Redwood Valley High School to paint cardinals on driveways of city residences and sidewalks of area businesses as a way to promote school pride.

The city council also approved the hiring of Ross Nachreiner as the new Parks and Recreation Director. Nachreiner has over 17 years experience with the department, and is currently serving as interim director.
