The Minnesota Department of Human Services has now made a determination of maltreatment in connection with the death of a vulnerable adult at REM South Central Services in Redwood Falls.
DHS says the vulnerable adult was found unresponsive on September 19th, but the staff person responsible for their care, who was trained in CPR, didn’t perform the procedure because s/he “panicked.”
The vulnerable adult had been suffering from pneumonia and it was not determined whether the failure to perform CPR resulted in the death. The report also says the person’s guardian didn’t have any concerns about care provided.
The staff person in question no longer works at the facility.
