Olivia driver crashes into parked vehicles in store parking lot

On Saturday, March 18, at approximately 4:46 AM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle crash, which had occurred near the intersection of Highway 212 and 7th Street in the City of Olivia.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed that a 2006 Ford Explorer, driven by 19-year-old Richard McMath, of Olivia, was traveling east on Hwy 212 near 7th Street in the City of Olivia. McMath attempted to turn into the Casey’s General Store parking lot but missed the turn. McMath’s vehicle drove over the curb and crashed into a vehicle that was parked in the yard of a residence near that location. The parked vehicle that McMath’s vehicle crashed into was unoccupied at the time of the crash. There were two passengers in McMath’s vehicle at the time of the crash, neither of which sustained injuries. Driver impairment is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

McMath was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Renville County Jail on probable cause 3rd degree driving while impaired and driving with a revoked driver’s license. McMath is expected to be formally charged by the Olivia City Attorney’s Office pending blood test results from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
