Two J.C. Penney stores in south central Minnesota are among the nearly 140 locations nationwide that the retailer plans to close. The J.C. Penney’s in Fairmont and in Faribault will be shuttered.
Most affected stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17, with the closures expected to occur in June.
Other Minnesota locations slated to close include those in Hutchinson, Winona, Red Wing, Baxter, Hibbing and Thief River Falls.
J.C. Penny says the closures are part of its “continuing effort to advance sustainable growth and long-term profitability.”
About 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures. Some workers will be given the chance to relocate within the company, while those eligible employees who are losing their jobs will receive outplacement support services.
