The No. 5 Gopher Hockey program continues the Big Ten schedule this weekend with a two-game series at No. 8/9 Penn State as Minnesota continues an eight-game stretch against some of the top scoring offenses in college hockey.
Gophers Power Play Sets School Record
Minnesota closed out last weekend with a 6-5 win at Ohio State that boasted six power-play goals from the Gophers — a modern era school record. The Maroon & Gold now rank fourth nationally while on the advantage (35-for-129, .217) and have a power-play goal in each of the last seven games and 12 of the last 13 contests.
Sheehy Reclaims Big Ten Scoring Lead
Sophomore forward Tyler Sheehy notched five points last weekend to earn Big Ten Third Star of the Week while reclaiming the Big Ten scoring lead with a career high 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists). The sophomore ranks eighth nationally in scoring.
Captain Kloos Keeps Climbing
Senior Justin Kloos continues to climb Minnesota’s scoring ranks and now sits tied for 34th all-time in scoring with 141 points (59 goals, 82 assists). Kloos, who leads all active Big Ten skaters in scoring and ranks third among active NCAA skaters, needs one point to tie Neal Broten for 33rd on the team’s all-time scoring list. Kloos has tallied at least 30 points in each of his four seasons with the Gophers.
Lettieri Lights It Up
Senior forward Vinni Lettieri is having his best season as a Gopher with career highs in points (29) and goals (15). With two goals last Saturday, Lettieri set a new career long point streak at six games and has nine points (four goals, five assists) in that span.
Bristedt Nears Century Mark
Junior forward Leon Bristedt is expected to play in his 100th game as a Gopher this weekend, and he enters the weekend hotter than ever. Bristedt has tallied three-straight multi-point games with seven points (three goals, four assists) in the stretch. In 99 games with the Gophers, the forward has tallied 83 points (36 goals, 47 assists). Bristedt sat down with MNN Sports Director Mike Grimm this week:
