MN legislature taking steps to let farmers continue mowing ditches as before

New ditch mowing regulations from the Minnesota Department of Transportation have many local farmers and rural landowners up in arms. State Representative Paul Torkelson, who represents Redwood, Renville, and Brown Counties, says reaction to the new regulations has been overwhelmingly negative:

Torkelson added the Department of Transportation’s new permitting process added new requirements for farmers, such items as flashing lights on vehicles and additional insurance. Torkelson said a bill currently in committee would greatly reduce the Department of Transportation’s ability to regulate permitting for farmers mowing ditches.
