Vehicle stuck in corn field catches fire near Danube

On Nov. 7, at approximately 2 p.m., the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle on fire in the middle of a corn field about 6 miles north of Danube.

The preliminary investigation revealed 61-year-old Robert Schwitters of Clara City was checking field conditions in his 2000 GMC Sierra when his vehicle became stuck in the field. The hot temperature of the vehicle caused the field to catch fire, soon igniting the pickup truck.  The vehicle became fully engulfed totaling out the pickup.  Schwitters was not in the vehicle when it caught fire.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Danube Fire Department.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
