The Timberwolves are catching a tough break. Minnesota announced starting point guard Ricky Rubio is out indefinitely with a sprained right elbow. The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of the T’Wolves’ loss to the Kings on Saturday. Rubio has averaged 4.5 points and 6.5 assists during their 0-and-2 start. Minny did take guard Kris Dunn out of Providence with the fifth-overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. The team said they will update Rubio’s status “as needed.”
The Minnesota Timberwolves are locking up center Gorgui Dieng to a four-year contract extension. Multiple outlets report the deal is worth 64-million-dollars. Dieng averaged 10.1 points and 7.1 rebounds while playing in all 82 games last season. The 26-year-old is in his fourth season in the league and in the final year of his rookie contract.
The Timberwolves host the Memphis Grizzlies tonight in their home opener at Target Center. The Nuggets will come to town on Thursday before the Wolves hit the road again. Minnesota is 0-and-2 on the young season.
